The month of December is a time filled with holiday celebrations with family, friends or work colleagues. And with that, comes the completion of a year. In numerology, 2016 is a Universal year 9 (2+0+1+6). The number 9 represents the end of a cycle, making 2016 a year of completion, ending a cycle that started in 2007.
Whether 2016 has been a relatively smooth ride or a more challenging one, I invite you to reflect on the year that has passed, and what it has brought you – joyful moments, challenges, struggles, blessings, growth. Did life teach you valuable lessons through the ups and downs of the year? Can you also feel the end of a cycle on a more personal level?
Through this time of introspection and reflection, ask yourself what luggage you’d like to leave behind. Perhaps it’s time to let go of certain relationships, painful experiences, misconceived perceptions, patterns or thoughts or simply stress and anxiety. And most importantly, what do you want to manifest in the coming year? It may be a new car, a new job, new friendships or it could be more relaxation, happiness or a sense of purpose. Allow yourself to consider every option, let your imagination run wild and free.
To help in your introspection, I am sharing below a meditation to reflect on 2016 and set some intentions for next year.
“The reflection of the trees on the frozen lake reminds us that this is a time for us to go inside – to both our physical shelter as well as our internal world – and there contemplate the season that has passed, the season that is, and the season yet to come. Just as the Earth cycles have their own pace, so does this cycle”Steven D. Farmer, Earth Magic Oracle Cards.
Meditation: Releasing 2016, Inviting 2017.
In this meditation you’ll release and honor whatever has happened in the previous months, focus on your present life, and consider what is yet to come.
Listen to the meditation:
Find a comfortable seated position. Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths if you need to. Take a few minutes to relax your body. Soften your shoulder, neck, jaw or anywhere you feel tension. You are going to reflect on this past year and ask yourself what needs to be released.
Picture in your mind a situation, an emotion or something you would like to let go off – anything you wish to leave here and not bring with you in 2017. It could be tension with your partner or a colleague. It could be a feeling of anger. A health issue. A challenge.
Whatever it is, experience how this feels and the sensations in your body. Stay with it for a few moments. Now, feel how this feeling or sensation is slowly disappearing from your body. When you stop resisting, you’ll notice that these uncomfortable sensations slowly go away. [You may repeat this process as many times as you need to release ‘stuff’].
Once you feel complete, take a moment to consider your present life, focus especially on what you are grateful for. A special someone, an pleasant memory, or even yourself – your courage, your strength. Find as many things as you can. Notice how blessed you are.
Finally, think about what you want to bring into your life for this coming new year. Consider all the different possibilities and potential that exist. What does your heart really want? What are you dreaming of and envisioning for yourself? Allow your imagination to be wild and free. And notice how you feel in your body when your mind plays that scenario.
When you feel complete, take a minute to sit here, feeling calm and peaceful. Slowly open your eyes. Feel free to write down the information, visions or messages you have received today.
